Overview

A hillside retreat on the Udaipur–Gogunda road, about 35 km out of the city, built in Mewar haveli style and finished in the pale ochre of Udaipur's old quarter. Carved jharokha windows sit on sandstone brackets under scalloped white parapets, and the buildings step down a terraced slope so that every room and every courtyard faces out across the Aravalli foothills rather than inward at itself. Five bedrooms sleep fifteen. Interiors are cool marble underfoot and air-conditioned, hung with Mewar miniatures and lake-palace studies, with carved wooden beds, cane-fronted storage and wide windows framing the hills. Bathrooms are finished in book-matched marble with backlit mirrors. Outside, stone stairways and chequered black-and-white tile courtyards link the buildings, set with low seating that catches the evening light. The gardens are mature and properly kept — lawns, fruit trees, palms, a stone colonnade along the upper terrace, and a white marble Buddha seated beneath a tree where the sun goes down behind the ridge. A hilltop shrine stands directly above the property. The whole place is taken by one group at a time. It suits families and friends travelling together, and celebrations that want a setting rather than a banquet hall — far enough from Udaipur that the nights are quiet and the hills are the only thing on the skyline, close enough that the city, the lakes and the airport are an easy drive.
